The mountains are really beautiful. I climbed 871 m to the top of the Ibañeta pass, via two intermediate cols. Did not need the mercy gear, and it did not feel exceedingly difficult, although I have no hard evidence for that as the battery of my heart rate monitor died this morning. After the climb a long descent into France - the border isn't marked well, a sign saying France or España would presumably not survive the fury of Basque nationalists. Finished in St Jean Pied de Port, tomorrow I will try to explore some scenic roads. A bientôt!
